Eulogy. Again.

Thank you all for coming to help say goodbye to my beautiful mom. I’m really at a loss for words today, but I am rising to the task only because it’s for the Queen.

Anyone who ever met Rita just loved her. Deep inside her was a strength not often seen; she lived her life exactly the way she wanted. She knew two things absolutely: her mind (which was razor sharp) and her heart, which had an endless capacity for love.

I feel extremely blessed to have been raised by a woman who radiated such light, amazing never-ending energy and a zest for life.

On the day, my mom passed, Sydney sent me a text that summed up Grandma Rita just perfectly.

“Remember that fairy dist I was talking about?” she said…”Grandma had so much fairy dust that she made even the brightest stars look dull. Her light is not dimmed or gone but is still present in her children…her magic was passed to you and you’ll shiine brighter than you ever have…this will make you stronger…the fairy dust is one of those things you’ll never be rid of no matter how much you vacuum — it’ll always be stuck in the carpet.”

So, that may or may not resonate with all of you as the “fairy dust” is what we call it. No matter what your version of fairy dust looks like, we can all agree that my mom had it. The glow, the light, the strength, the love. She had it in spades.

And so while I am completely grief-stricken and really cannot fathom that she is truly gone from this world — I tell myself that there is one single way I can honor her memory and that would be to always remember her light is in me, and it’s in y children. It’s in my siblings. In her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.

Her strong spirit will always be with me and guide me. Rita lives on and will be loved and remembered always.
